A Sustainable Company

The Piombaia vineyards are located in the north-east area of ​​Montalcino and divided into two plots of different age and level. The plot of the Cross, is about 8 hectares, is 35 years old. It consists of 6.5 hectares of Sangiovese grosso and 1.5 hectares of merlot, it is located on a clayey-sandy soil with different concentrations depending on the areas within it, with an average height of 450 meters above sea level. The other plot of 4 hectares of Sangiovese grosso, is about 45/50 years old and it is located close to the Civitella hill, 80 meters above sea level, on a fairly sloping hill composed of stony soils of marlstone, exposed to southeast side.

Everything turns around nature

The vineyard is the fulcrum around which everything revolves, in fact most of the work takes place in the vineyard, from sensitive pruning to green manuring, the use of horses instead of tractors up to harvesting strictly by hand. The goal is to strengthen fertility and vitality with natural means. The compost is the main fertilizer made by a solid farmyard manure and plant material. Green manure, crop rotation, mechanical pest control, pesticides based on mineral and vegetable substances are the other means to support the vitality of the vine.


Plants and flowers have the main task of helping the growth of the vine by nourishing the subsoil. While the approach of the vineyard is intensive, in the cellar we use a soft approach: the tanks without controlled temperature, the spontaneous fermentation without the addition of yeasts and sulphites, the aging wood for a long time, the decanting and filtering reduced to a minimum mean that Piombaia wine can express its full potential.

Biodynamic and agriculture. Two words that imply a way of working, observing, and living the land. A philosophy of life to appreciate all the harmony of a cultivated field, the succession of seasons and time.
With the biodynamic method, agriculture is in harmony with nature, with the earth and with men.
